John Edward Keane, 75, of Springfield, formerly of Chicago, died at 4:45 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2014 at St. John's Hospice. John was born on September 10, 1938 in Chicago, the son of Patrick J. and Nora Kelly Keane. He married Irene Duffy and she preceded him in death. He later married Rosalie Henebry on August 1, 1987 at St. Ignatius in Chicago. John earned his Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Loyola University in 1960 and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was employed as a Healthcare Administrator for many years, serving in Chicago, Niles, and Arthur, IL until his retirement in 2003. After his retirement he was an usher for the IL House of Representatives for 10 years. He was a member of Church of the Little Flower and the Gift Program at Church of the Little Flower. John enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, cooking, reading, volunteering at the UIS Auditorium, building things, and tinkering in the garage. He was also preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patricia Keane. He is survived by his wife, Rosalie Keane of Springfield; five children, Matthew (wife, Carole) Keane of Alexandria, VA, Patrick (wife, Sonja) Keane of South Elgin, IL, Michael (wife, Margaret) Keane, Theresa Keane, and Daniel (wife, Melissa) Keane all of Chicago; seven grandchildren; sister, Eleanora Feltz of Yorkville, IL ; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2014 at Church of the Little Flower, 800 Stevenson Dr., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer services at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Church of the Little Flower with Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Illiopolis with military honors provided by the Department of Defense.
