He was born on January 31, 1962, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, to Sally Ann (Boehmer) Cadagin and Richard J. Cadagin. John was a graduate of Griffin High School and University of Illinois at Springfield. He served in the Peace Corps from 1993 to 1995, serving in the Republic of Botswana. John spent the rest of his career working as an accountant for Family Video Company.
He was amazingly smart and well-read. John was never allowed to play Trivial Pursuit because no one would play opposite him since he knew all the answers. He was a die-hard Cubs fan and was thrilled to attend game seven of the 2016 World Series. John was also an avid Packers fan.
John loved spending time with his nephew and nieces. Every family gathering included heated rounds of Uno Attack. He adored them and they him.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Rick; father, Dick; maternal and paternal grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.
John is survived by his mother and sister, Laura, both of Springfield; nephew, Tyler (Whitney) Lanterman of Midland, Texas; nieces, Kelsey Lanterman of Kansas City, Missouri, and Elyse Lanterman of Montclair, New Jersey; several aunts and uncles; and many cousins and friends.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
A Graveside Ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Calvary Cemetery. A family-hosted Celebration of Life will follow at Casey’s Pub, 2200 Meadowbrook Road, Springfield.
