Frederick H. Gutmann, 85, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday April 23, 2013 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born on March 6, 1928 in Jacksonville, the son of Frank and Lillian Hibbs Gutmann. He married Cleda Massey in Arkansas in 1949 and she preceded him in death in 1977, he then married R. Alene Gentry-Pals in Pawnee, IL., on June 3, 1978 and she survives.
Mr. Gutmann is also survived by his sons: David (Grace) Gutmann of Florida and Bill (Karen) Gutmann of Springfield, his daughter Diana Gutmann of Springfield, three step-sons: Dennis (Linda) Pals of Decatur, Richard (Annmarie) Pals of Effingham, and James (Leila) Pals of Waterford, WI., four step-daughters: Sharon (Tony) Jackowski of Chicago, Kathi (Jim) Lambie and Joni (Allen) Bernhal both of Chatham, and Lisa Orton of Laporte, IN., one son-in-law Donald Vinlove of Auburn, one step-daughter-in-law Penny Pals of Effingham, 34 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters: Lynn Vinlove and Marsha Taylor, his step-son Steven Pals, and his granddaughter Kari Gutmann.
Frederick was a meat cutter for 35 years at Castors Foods, National Grocery Store, and Kroger Grocery Store, and he was a member of the Meat Cutters Union. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and he will be missed by his beloved BINGO and Off Track Betting Friends.
A memorial gathering will be held from 1:00-4:00pm on Friday April 26, 2013 at the Firefighters-Postal Lake Club, 940 West Lake Shore Drive. Memorial contributions may be made to the family and please visit the online “Life Remembered Story” at www.bischfuneralhomewest.com.
