She was born April 27, 1926, in Pikeville, Ky., a daughter of George and Katharina Hames. She married John H. Lewis Dec. 23, 1948, in Morganfield, Ky. He died Jan. 19, 2021.
Survivors include three sons, Mark (Pamela) Lewis of Normal, Scott (Vickie) Lewis of Springfield, and Steve (Beth) Lewis of Palos Heights; a daughter, Elizabeth “Libby” (Ken) Olp of Wheaton; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A 1947 graduate of the University of Kentucky, Tish earned a physical education degree. She was a member of UK’s Tumbling Adagio Team, which performed at athletic events, schools and prisons.
She taught physical education, health and biology for three years at Grayville (Ill.) High School. Tish and her husband raised their children in Oak Lawn (Ill.) and Palos Heights (Ill.) before retiring to Florida in 1981.
Tish was an avid tennis player, competing into her 80s. She also enjoyed painting, quilting, crafts, golf and crossword puzzles.
