He was born in Springfield, Sept. 1, 1946, the son of Alfred H. and Mary Rose (Schnepp) Sommer. His parents preceded him in death.
Ed was a member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod and attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Springfield and more recently, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Sherman, IL.
He lived in a Bethesda group home and previously in a SPARC group home and through them worked at Goodwill Industries and Meijer in Springfield. He enjoyed his family and especially special events, holidays and parties. He was a friend to many that knew him.
Surviving is his brother, Stephen (wife Debbie) Sommer of Springfield, his sister, Carol (husband David) Bean, of Fairfield, Connecticut, two nieces, Lorri (husband C.J.) Bandy and Lindsay Sommer, both of Sherman and a great niece, Quinn Bandy. He is also survived by several cousins, including Kathie Wozniak (husband Dana Heupel) of Springfield.
Visitation and Funeral Service: The Sommer family will greet friends at Bisch Funeral Home West 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield, from 9:00am Saturday, Jan, 31, 2015 until time of funeral services there at 10:30 am Saturday. Rev. Dr. Thomas G. Radtke will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
