Dorothy Marie Dawson

Marie was born February 2, 1930, in Pocahontas, AR, the daughter of Arlie and Cordelia Beatrice (Tiner) Cagle. She was married to Clerington “CL” Dawson on November 25, 1948, in Pocahontas, AR; he preceded her in death on October 20, 2018.

Marie had obtained a certificate from La Vera School of Beauty Culture in Jonesboro, AR, in 1946. She then graduated from Pocahontas High School and was a member of the Class of 1948. Marie retired from Washington National Insurance Company as a secretary after working in both Illinois and Arizona. She was a member of Sutton Freewill Baptist Church where she was a teacher and choir member. Marie loved sewing, quilting, singing, and music, including playing the piano and dulcimer. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Pocahontas Community Theater.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Bea Holder; and brother, Thomas Cagle.

She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy “Dee” (husband, Jim) Hoover of Springfield, IL; son, John “Doug” (wife, Brenda) Dawson of Surprise, AZ; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Arlene Mosier of Bella Vista, AR and Janie Dunn of Corpus Christi, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. on Friday, October 11. 2019, at Sutton Freewill Baptist Church, 5421 Highway 62W, Pocahontas, AR. A Funeral Ceremony will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Kevin Barnett officiating.

Burial will follow at Sutton Cemetery in Pocahontas, AR.
