Doris Woods, 100, of Springfield passed away of natural causes on August 7th 2024 at Memorial Hospital. She was born on January 30, 1924 in Springfield, the daughter of Uffie and Bertha (Noll) Wieties.
Doris earned her nursing degree from the St Johns School of Nursing during WW2. During the war she exchanged letters with her boyfriend stationed overseas. Soon after the end of the war, she married the love of her life, Carrol W. Woods. He proceeded her in death in 2014.
Their marriage produced six children and Doris continued to work as an RN at St. John’s hospital retiring in 1982. She loved gardening, and in her retirement taught herself the craft of making dried flower arrangements which she sold at craft shows for many years. She had a pleasant and loving disposition and her family feels tremendous gratitude for having had her in their lives for so long.
Doris is survived by her daughters Carolyn “Susie” Jones, Marilyn (husband Hugh) Harris and Mindy Woods, all of Springfield. Her sons; Mark Woods of Springfield and Jeff (wife Karen) Woods of Williamsville. grandsons; Woodsman “Woody” Jones (wife Kristin) of Romeoville IL, August “Gus” Jones (wife Mary) of Cantrall and Dylan Woods of Denver Colorado, granddaughters Amanda Woods of Springfield, and Skylar (husband Peter) Marek of Springfield. She is also survived by six great grandchildren. Her son Todd Woods and son-in-law Nolan Jones proceeded her in death. She was also proceeded in death by her seven siblings, including her sister Anita Hayes who just recently passed away at the age of 102.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, where an informal gathering will be held on Saturday August 17th starting at 10 AM followed by a brief Celebration of Life at 11:30 AM. Cremation rites were accorded. A private burial will be held at Camp Butler at a later date.
