Donald Allen Smith

Donald Allen Smith, 72, of Springfield, passed away at 11:00 p.m. Sunday, August 5, 2001 at Memorial Medical Center. Donald was born December 18, 1928 the son of Riley and Hila Owens Smith in Georgetown, Illinois. He married Shirley Ehlenfeld in 1951. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church and IBT Sunday School Class. He worked as an engineer for Illinois Bell for 33 years. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois where he received a Bachelor’s Degree. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant from 1952-1955. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Laura Ann Smith. He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Springfield; one daughter: Gwynne (husband, Tim) Nation on Springfield; four grandchildren: Angie (husband, Dan) Butler of Romeoville, Jeremy, Nicole and Jordan Nation all of Springfield; four brothers: Dwight, Dean, Dale and Dan Smith. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home from 5-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2001. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 9, 2001 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Reverend Margaret Grove officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
