Christopher Chris Todd Bryce Owens, 47, of Chatham, passed away Monday, May 22, 2017, at Memorial Medical Center, with his family by his side. He was born September 24, 1969, in Springfield to Bryce and Joyce Brooks Owens. His father and his special brother, Daryl Lehmann preceded him in death; in April 2017, his brother Rusty died unexpectedly, and now they are all together in heaven. After graduating from Glenwood High School, Christopher was a laborer for a local septic company and an excellent picture framer for several local framing companies. In April 1997, Christopher and his friend, Daryl were involved in an auto accident; Daryl was fatally injured, and Chris was in a coma for 3 years. After awakening, he relearned how to speak, but remained bedridden as a quadriplegic. He loved life and was quoted as saying. God and I are best friends, never complaining about his plight. He will be greatly missed by his mother, Joyce Owens; brother, Randy Owens, of Chatham; nephew, Joseph Owens of Chatham; nieces, Jessica (Quentin) Call of Ft. Riley, KS, Samantha Smith of Kellogg, Idaho; aunts and uncles, including Gary (Margaret) Brooks of Chatham, Ross Owens of Rochester; several cousins; many friends and care givers, and his pet companions. His family will greet friends from 5pm-7pm, Friday, May 26, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham. Funeral service will follow at 7pm with Pastor Greg Busboom officiating. Burial at Leamington Cemetery near Equality, IL on Saturday, May 27 at 1pm. with Tenney Tarlton, a cousin, as committal celebrant. Memorial contributions may be made for his end of life expenses.
