Charles "Chuck" W. Atteberry, 78, of Springfield, passed away at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at his residence, surrounded by his family. Chuck was born May 22, 1938 in Decatur, the son of TJ and Edna Sullivan Atteberry. He married Janet Schroll on September 4, 1960 at Forsyth Methodist. Chuck attended Macon High School, and proudly served in the United States Army while finishing his high school education. He was a banker with T & C Financial for many years and later finished his career with the State of Illinois. Chuck enjoyed going fishing, coming back from fishing, talking about fishing, and planning on fishing. When he could no longer fish, his greatest joy was spending time with family, especially his grandchildren, and watching American Pickers. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sally and Nelda; and brothers, Tom, Joe, Mike, and Danny. He is survived by his wife, Janet Atteberry of Springfield; one son, Russell Charles (fiance, Angie Boggs) Atteberry of Waverly; one daughter, Kathleen Dyan Atteberry of Springfield; five grandchildren, Madelyn Grace, Jayden Charles, Amanda, Sammi, and Gabby; two brothers, Jim (wife, Judy) Atteberry of Florida and David (wife, Karen) Atteberry of Mt. Zion; and several nieces and nephews. His family will miss his smile and humor, but know that he is at peace, breathing easy casting a line in heavenly waters looking to catch "The Big One." He left his wife, children, and grandchildren with lessons, love, and memories to last until he sees them again. Graveside Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 1, 2016 at Calvary Cemetery, 2200 N. 1st, Springfield, with Bob Burton officiating.
