Caren Sue White, 57, of Springfield, died at 11:14 a.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center. Caren was born July 3, 1950 in Springfield, the daughter of James Charles and Marjorie Ann Keagle Howell. She married Harold White on October 24, 1970 in Springfield. Caren was employed at the Illinois Department of Revenue for over 30 years before retiring due to health reasons. She was a member of the Eagles Club and a former member of the Athens VFW Post 5302 Women's Auxiliary and Women of the Moose. Caren will be remembered as a kind loving woman who was always more concerned about others than herself. She loved to bowl and play bingo and board games, especially Monopoly. She also enjoyed cooking; baked beans and meatloaf were her specialty. She was preceded in death by her father: James Howell; grandparents; mother-in-law, father-in-law; and several aunts. She is survived by her husband of over 30 years: Harry White of Springfield; one son: Blake White of Springfield; one daughter: Chrystal Call of Springfield; two grandchildren: Quentin and Evan Call both of Springfield; her mother: Marjorie Ann Howell of Springfield; three sisters: Chris (husband, Craig) Allen of Cannon Falls, MN, Cathy (husband, Mike) Woodcox of Springfield and Carla (husband, Terry) Covington of Springfield; and a large extended family. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. A memorial gathering will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A celebration of life will be held later this summer for family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the White family, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
