Bernie T. Coady

Bernie T. Coady, 66, of Springfield, died at 8:03 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center. Bernie was born November 1, 1948 in Springfield, the son of Aloysius Thomas and Burnice Rosella Gregg Coady. Bernie graduated from Griffin High School and proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was employed as a firefighter in Springfield for 28 years, most recently as a Division Chief. He also owned his own roofing company. Bernie was a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church, K of C Hall #364, and VFW Post 755. He enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren's sports games, growing tomatoes, playing racquetball, and spending winters in FL with his wife, Suzy. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bernard Jacob "B.J." Coady; and sister, Karen Coady-Rinkema. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Suzy Coady of Springfield; his children, Michael (wife, Jennie) Coady of Sherman, Adam (wife, Melissa) Coady of Springfield, Ahren "A.J." (wife, Angela) Coady of Tuscola, Ryan (husband, Chris) Coady of Springfield, Lori (husband, Melvin) Hale of Riverton, Jeni Emery (Gene Adams) of Mechanicsburg, and Rob Bernhardt of Springfield; thirteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Jody "Jo" Coady (Jeff Morgan) of Springfield and Carole (husband, Don) Leone of Edwardsville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1725 S. Walnut, Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2015 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant.
