Barbara was born on May 30, 1932 in Wabash Indiana, the oldest daughter of three children to the union of Nile and Virginia (Burnett) Alexander. Barbara was raised by her Grandmother, Myrtle Alexander Brown in Champaign, Illinois. Both her parents and grandmother preceded her in death.
Barbara, affectionally known as "Ann", graduated from Champaign High School in 1949. She moved to Springfield, Illinois where she met and married Charles Harmon in 1957. They were married for 46 years. Her husband Charles, her three children; Brenda Burks, Charles Harmon Jr., Patrice Harmon, her two siblings: Nile Alexander Jr., and Joan Alexander all preceded her in death.
During Ann's many years in Springfield, she was a devoted wife, mother and member of Jehovah Witness. As a young woman she had a charismatic personality along with a beautiful smile and was always willing to help anyone. She attended nursing school at the American Institute of Practical Nursing where she received her degree in nursing. Ann received her LPN license from the State of Illinois signed by Governor Otto Kerner on May 4, 1965, and again signed by Governor James R. Thompson on September 30, 1982. She continued to enhance her nursing skills at Lincoln Land Community College. She worked many years at Lincoln Development Center and Ridgemont Nursing Home.
Ann leaves to cherish her memories grandchildren Derrell Price, Tiffany Love, Chuck Harmon, Devon Harmon, and Tyran Harmon along with several great grandchildren, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00am on Friday June 4, 2021 at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 East Allen Street. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and please visit the online "Life Remembered Story" at www.bischandsonfuneralhome.com.
