Arthur "Art" Blank, 79, of Springfield, died at 12:05 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Vibra Hospital. Art was born March 13, 1935 in Cicero, the son of Arthur E. and Rose Nemeck Blank. He married Sandra Lynn Carlson on July 5, 1958 in Rock Island. Art was a graduate of Riverside High School in Brookfield and Bradley University. He proudly served his country for six years in the National Guard. He worked as a mechanical engineer for Maytag and Fiat-Allis. Art built a lot of friendships in his cardiac rehab group at Prairie Heart Institute and was a life member of NRA, Member of Abe Lincoln Gun Club, International American Society of Quality Control, where he was later elected as a fellow, and shot in several trap and pistol leagues. Art loved his pets, fishing, shooting, classic cars, car racing, and was an avid Cardinals fan. He was also a member of First Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Blank of Springfield; two sons, David Blank of Springfield and John Blank of Normal; one daughter, Sally Jo Blank of Springfield; one niece and two nephews. At Art's request, private family ceremonies were held.
