Al was born on July 14, 1948, the son of Allen Lucas Sr. and Marcella ‘Sally’ (Wetterer) Lucas, who preceded him in death.
Al was a lifelong resident of Springfield. He attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School, Griffin High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University (Carbondale). During his high school and college years, he had various municipal summer jobs. After graduation, Al worked over 40 years for the Illinois Secretary of State Data Processing Division, retiring as manager in the Drivers’ License Department.
Al was a member of the Knights of Columbus #364 and the Postal Club. He worked on several political campaigns and served 8 years as Democratic Precinct Committeeman. Al loved sports. He bowled, played basketball, broomball and football but his true loves were slow pitch softball and golf. He also enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinal baseball, Chicago Bears football, and University of Illinois football and basketball teams.
Al is survived by his sons, Brian (Valerie) and Mark (Jen); and daughter, Trisha. He was a proud grandfather to Hailey, Michael, Jake, Matthew and Tallula.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
There will be private funeral services and burial. Family will host a Celebration of Life will be held at Casey’s Pub on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriners Hospitals for Children, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, or American Diabetes Association.
