She was born February 10, 1923 in Dugger, IN. the daughter of Myrtle and Harry Kirchner. She graduated fron Sullivan High School(Indiana) and Indiana State University. She married Robert D. Carpenter in 1950 and they later divorced. She received her Master's Degree from Sangamon State University in 1978. She was head librarian at Feitschan's High School from 1949 to 1954. She also taught english at Griffin High School from 1961-1970 and was later Head Librarian at Glenwood High School from 1973 until her retirement in 1987.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon, and had also been a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Illinois Education Association and the Ball Chatham Education Association.
Alice is survived by her two sons; Rance(wife,Ellen) of Springfield and Ron(wife, Julia) of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren; her brother, Harry(wife, Jean) Kirchner of Sterling and her sister, Joyce Brimley of Findlay, OH. as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, her sister, Eleanor Harris and her brothers, Paul, Jack and Daniel Kirchner and a daughter-in-law Beth Carpenter.
Friends may call Friday May 2, 2008 at Westminster Presbyterian Church from 10:00 AM until the time of memorial services there at 11:00AM with Rev. Mark Merrill officiating. A reception will be held at the home of Rance and Ellen Carpenter following the service.
