Herbert, fondly known as Herb, was born to Harry and Lola Messinger, on July 31, 1932, in NY, NY. He attended James Monroe High School in the Bronx. After graduating, Herb went to pharmacy school and became a registered pharmacist. Herb then served two years as a medic in the U.S. Army before embarking on a career within the pharmaceutical industry, progressing through jobs in sales, marketing, and advertising, which ultimately led to the creation of the pharmaceutical advertising agency Botto, Roessner, Horne & Messinger.
Herb is survived by his four children, Steve Messinger, wife Caryn, grandchildren Daniel and Charlie. Ken Messinger, wife Terri, grandchildren Matt, Dave, (wife Katy, great grandchild Aiden) and Dana. Laura McGarrigal, husband Ray, grandchildren Emily, Megan and Campbell. Andrew Messinger, wife Carolyn, grandchildren Alex, (fiancee Meredith) Isaac and Kate. He is also survived by his sister Marilyn Flaum and her husband Paul.
Herb was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Irene who passed away on January 2, 2022. They met when she was twelve and he fourteen, living across the street from each other in the Bronx, NY. They were married for sixty-seven years at the time of her passing.
Herb loved to usher at Tanglewood and play golf in Florida, but his family was his pride and joy. He was known for his huge smiles and warm hugs. In the last months he would repeatedly say, ‘I’m very lucky, I’ve had a great life.'
Following a private graveside service, the family will be receiving those who wish to pay their respects on Friday March 24 12:30-2:30 at Fire and Oak - Montvale, 100 Chestnut Ridge Road, Montvale NJ
