Patricia McNulty, of Spring Hill Florida, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on 10/23. She was surrounded by loved ones in the weeks and days leading up to her passing.
Patricia was 93 years young at the time of her passing. She was born in Brooklyn on 7/24/1930. She grew up in Whitestone, NY with her sister Joan, their mother Theresa (“Tessie”) and their father Francis. After graduating from Dominican Commercial High School, Patricia embarked on an exciting career as an office manager for an essential oil and perfume company in Manhattan.
Patricia married the love of her life, Patrick, on June 21, 1953, and enjoyed 63 years of marriage. They shared a passion for animal rescue, and were dedicated volunteers at the Humane Society of New York and the League of Animal Protection. Traveling to Ireland was another passion, as Patrick’s family hailed from county Kerry. Patrick and Patricia also shared a fascination with flight. They purchased a small Cessna plane in the 1960’s and earned their pilots licenses. Earning a pilot’s license was a rare accomplishment for a woman of that era, but Patricia exceeded the expectations of her generation.
Patricia was not able to bear children, so she doted on her nieces and nephews, Michael, Robert, Susan, Kathleen, Tommy, Jolene and Aviard (“Butch”). “Aunt and Uncle Pat”, as they were affectionately known, hosted many festive family dinners. “Aunt Pat” would whip up homemade family favorites such as beef ravioli, home-baked bread and “ice cream” cake. “Uncle Pat “ would make a roaring fire in the fireplace for all to enjoy. They also took their nieces and nephews out on the small speed boat they owned.
Patricia and Patrick moved to Spring Hill, Florida when they retired in 1998. Their nieces and nephews, now adults, flew in with their spouses and partners to visit Aunt and Uncle Pat when they could. Mike and Linda, Sue and Tom, Kathleen and Joe, Robert and Tommy came to spend time with them over the years. “Aunt and Uncle Pat” enjoyed hearing about their grandnieces, grandnephews and great grandnephew as their lineage grew. They were very proud of their extended family.
Patrick and Patricia formed a long friendship with their caring neighbors, Dick and Betty Kennedy. Dick and Betty included Patrick and Patricia in all of their holiday celebrations and family gatherings. Their great nephew Cowen took a particular shine to “Miss Pat”. He loved to serenade her with “You Are My Sunshine”. That would always make her smile! Cowen also presented his baby sister “Colbie” to Miss Pat which brought her great delight.
As Patricia and Patrick aged, Dick and Betty became their guardian angels, helping them with whatever they needed to continue live independently in their home. After Patrick passed away in 2016, Patricia’s health began to suffer. Dick and Betty helped arrange a team of caregivers to assist in keeping Patricia safe and healthy. In the final weeks of Patricia’s life, these devoted and loving caregivers worked around the clock to keep her as comfortable as possible.
Patricia was blessed with a long and beautiful life. She has surely entered the gates of heaven and is joyfully reunited with her husband Patrick and all of her loved ones who have passed.
