Mary Hill was born on November 29, 1939 in Lake Charles, Louisiana to the late Netha and Wilton Freddie. She is survived by her husband Richard and children Richard Hill Jr.(VA) and Rosalind Rice (TX). Siblings include the late Wilton Freddie Jr., Rufus Freddie and Alene Deville. Grandchildren Virginia Hill, Jaxon Hill, Ashley Rice and Ryan Rice.
Mary graduated from Sacred Heart High School (where she was a 4-year letterman in basketball), and Southern University (BR)where she received a B.S. degree in Recreation/Dance. Mary was the creator and choreographer for the Southern Belles, now known as the Dancing Dolls for Southern University. After college, Mary won two state championships in racquetball; the women’s doubles title in California, and the mixed doubles title in Louisiana. As a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Mary founded the SDSU Delta Sigma Theta Chapter. Mary received the Mayor’s 2001 Garden City Residential Beautification Award in Newton, MA. Affiliations: MIT Women’s League, Glen Lakes Red Hatters, Wahoos, Garden Club, and P.E.O Sisterhood. Mary contributed recipes to various cookbooks.
Mary and Richard were married for 54 years. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking, arts and crafts, cycling and camping.
