Lilian was born in Snowdown, Kent, England in 1932, and grew up during the Second World War. As a
child, she spent many nights in the bomb shelters during The Blitz.
After completing her education, Lilian worked for the National Coal Board in Dover, England.
Lilian met her husband of 67 years, Jerry McCollum, in 1954 while he was stationed with the U.S. Air
Force at R.A.F. Manston. Together, they raised three children: Geraldine McCollum, Jerry Bruce
McCollum, and Stuart McCollum.
Lilian was proud to become a Naturalized U.S. Citizen in 1966.
Following Jerry's retirement from the U.S. Air Force, the family moved to Columbus, Ohio, where they
lived for many years.
Lilian worked as a billing administrator for the United Parcel Service, and retired from the company in
1991.
She was an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi social sorority for many years in Central Ohio.
Lilian loved to travel, visiting many countries in Europe, Great Britain, Scandinavia, Australia, and New
Zealand. She also traveled extensively throughout the United States. Her trips to Alaska, Yellowstone
National Park, and the Grand Canyon were her particular favorites.
She was an avid gardener, and was a member of several gardening clubs.
Lilian also loved knitting, and teaching others how to knit. Family and friends treasure her many
creations: afghans, baby blankets, sweaters, and winter caps. She frequently donated her work to
those undergoing cancer treatment.
Lilian is survived by her husband Jerry McCollum, her daughter Geraldine McCollum, her son and
daughter in-law Stuart & Betsy McCollum, her sister Doris Smith, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son Jerry Bruce McCollum, her father and mother, and several
brothers and sisters.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider making a donation to the Salvation Army or Habitat
for Humanity.
