Gordon is survived by his wife, Anne of Spring Hill, FL; children, Steven (Joy) Meyer and Ruby of Pasadena, CA, Michael (Linda) Meyer and Hannah and Kate of Santa Barbara, CA and Mellisa (Garrett) Mortin and Charlie and Brody of San Diego, CA; and stepchildren Scott (Meaghan) Dunham and Donovan and Kerrigan of Gross Pointe Park, MI , Dana Nelson of Spring Hill, FL, and Brad Hillard of Dewitt, MI and Kathryn Mares of Appleton, WI and Patrick Dunham and Chase, Tyler, Zoe and Tessa of Holt, MI; and sister, Patricia (Paul) Heddens of Charles City, IA; nephews, Scott (Barb) Heddens of Dunedin, FL, Tracy (JoAnn) Heddens of Bennington, NE and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David (1971 in Vietnam).
Gordon was born on May 9, 1940 in Charles City, IA to Carl and Eleanor (Boggess) Meyer. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1957; Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA in 1962. He entered the Navy in 1962 and served as a Navy pilot in Vietnam. In 1967 he moved to Sparta, NJ and started his career with TWA as a pilot, retiring in 1999.
Gordon was an accomplished outdoorsman who loved hunting pheasant and deer, fishing on the Gulf of Mexico, playing golf and working with his hunting dogs. He always looked forward to spending time with his family, enjoyed cooking, working in his yard, loved to tell a funny story and had a wide grin that everyone adored.
A service will be scheduled at a later date at Bushnell National Cemetery.
