Francis D. Meehan Jr., affectionately known as Frank, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on August 23, 1940, to Francis and Edna (Mary) Meehan, Frank's journey through life was marked by his unwavering devotion to his family and his boundless enthusiasm for the passions he cherished.
Frank's heart belonged to his beloved wife, Geraldine (Geri) Farrell, with whom he shared a loving marriage for 61 wonderful years. Their story began in September 1959 at Potomac State College, blossomed into a lifelong partnership when they married in 1962, and was enriched by their four children: Christine, David, Susan, and Jenifer. Together, they built a warm and nurturing home in Pittsburgh, PA, before eventually moving to Virginia and later retiring to Florida. Embracing a snowbird lifestyle, Frank and Geri enjoyed winters in Florida and summers at Deep Creek Lake, where they made countless cherished memories.
Frank’s legacy lives on through his four children, eleven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed by his love and guidance. His sense of humor and spirited personality touched everyone he met, creating a lasting impression on his family and friends.
An accomplished athlete in his youth, Frank’s passion for football was evident in his support for WVU and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Although an injury curtailed his playing career, his enthusiasm for the sport remained undiminished. Frank was also a dedicated member of the Lions Club in his early years, an avid entrepreneur and later found joy in competitive sailing. As a member of the Deep Creek Yacht Club, he actively sailed a Rebel and Flying Scot until he was 79 years young. Frank also contributed significantly as the treasurer of the Deep Creek Sailing School for over a decade, fostering the same sense of camaraderie and commitment he brought to every aspect of his life.
Frank will be remembered fondly for his generosity, humor, and deep love for his family. A celebration of his life will be held at the Deep Creek Yacht Club (855 Shoreline Drive Swanton, MD 21561) on September 14, 2024, at 5 p.m., where all who knew and loved him are invited to honor his memory and share in the joy he brought into their lives.
Frank's presence will be greatly missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace, cherished in our hearts forever.
