Born August 15, 1921, to Avetus Adams and Grace Adams in Spencer, Iowa, Dean joined the Navy in 1942 after two years at Iowa College and served seven war patrols aboard the submarine USS Redfin, one of the “Manitowoc Boats,” from its commissioning in 1943 through the end of World War II. Dean married Alice Arlene Petersen of Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 1943. They had five sons: Daryl (Ann), Joseph (Karen), Andrew, WIlliam, and Peter.
Following the war, Dean and family lived in Iowa where he farmed. They moved to Menomonie, Wisconsin, where they bought a farm and lived until 1972. Dean sold the farm and bought a resort by Winter, Wisconsin. Dean retired in 1983 and moved to Hayward, Wisconsin, where Dean and Alice lived until they went into the nursing home in Spooner, Wisconsin.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Alice, and his sons Daryl and Andrew and is survived by eleven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
His funeral will be held in Boyceville, Wisconsin, Thursday, June 26, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Luke’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be held at the church starting at 10:00 a.m.
