Our beloved Robert John Findley Jr., 24, of Spokane, Washington, tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident on May 15th, 2021. As a testament to his true passions, he passed away doing one of the things he loved most.
Robert entered this world on June 10th, 1996. After nearly ten months of anticipation and taking his sweet time to come out, his parents, Bob and Heidi, laid their eyes on their new blond-haired blue-eyed baby boy. His small frame and delicate skin gave no indication of the mischievous daredevil he would become. From an early age, Robert was known as a wild child. At just two years old, his mother received a six am visit from the neighbor to inform her that Robert was swinging on the playset in her backyard. That tiny toe-headed little boy had quietly climbed out of his crib, taken the wooden stick out of the sliding back door, and made his way to the neighbor’s house where he played as the sun was rising. When Robert wanted to do something, he did it. At the age of four Robert came across a can of his dad’s Chevy Hugger Orange Engine enamel and decided that his house needed a new paint job – inside and out. By the time his mother found him, after about five minutes of silence (far too long for Robert), he had made his way through the living room, hallway, and his bedroom where he left a trail of orange on almost every surface. He made sure that his mom’s white couch, cuckoo clock, TV, carpet, and even his bedroom ceiling was painted to his liking. He was never afraid to take risks or try something new. Throughout his childhood, there was not a moment in time Robert wasn’t healing from at least one cut, scrape, or bruise from his adventures and play. He could be found climbing trees and fences, doing backflips on his trampoline, battling his cousins with nerf guns, playing sports, and riding his bikes, scooters, and skateboards. During his teenage years and into adulthood, Robert enjoyed spending his time at Joe Albi stadium and biking with his friends. Robert effortlessly took on the large task of eldest child and big brother. His brother, Trevor, and sister, Maddie, were no strangers to his jokes and antics but rest assured that he was their protector. He was rough and tough on the outside but had a soft heart - especially for his parents, siblings, and family pugs.
Robert had a library of movie quotes stored in his head, ready to be recited quick-wittedly should the need arise. Although he delighted in telling inappropriate jokes and responding with sarcastic come backs, he had a heart of gold and was loyal to those he surrounded himself with. To be flipped the bird by him was to be loved by him. If he threw you an obscene insult, he considered you family. Robert always had a smile on his face and would make you laugh with his stories, one-liners, and sarcasm. He found joy in giving the people he loved unique nicknames and over the years accumulated numerous of his own including Robbie Doo, Bobert, Bobasaurus, Berto, Robbit, Robocop, and Mr. Roboto to name a few. During his free time, Robert could be found playing pool or grabbing a bite to eat (hot sauce included) at Pete’s Calzone’s. Robert enjoyed playing video games, being outdoors, hiking, boating, fishing, hunting, going to bonfires, and camping. He loved 80’s classic movies, guns, bikes, and motorcycles. Robert was all about customizing his truck and parents’ muscle cars (because he always knew they were intended for him).
Like his parents, he had expensive taste which showed in his collection of hand-blown glass with some pieces worth several thousand dollars. Despite his admiration for pricey items, Robert was humble and easy going. He dedicated his life to helping his friends and family. He was someone you could always call on and would give you the shirt off his back or the shoes off his feet. He worked hard and put a great deal of blood, sweat, and tears into being the hardest worker he could be.
Robert was preceded in death by his grandfather, Mike. He is survived by his parents, Heidi and Bob, siblings, Trevor and Maddie, grandparents, great-grandmother, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. Memorial service will be held on May 29th, 2021 at 11:00 am at Real Life Ministries, 10101 N Nevada St, Spokane, WA 99218. Celebration to follow at The Brown Derby Bar, 808 W Garland Ave, Spokane, WA 99205 at 2:00 pm.
