Peacefully passed away February 19, 2016 with his family by his bedside, in Rochester, Minnesota, from complications following a medical procedure, a routine procedure he had multiple times over the past fifteen years. Kent was born June 27, 1949 to Dr. and Mrs. Kenneth McVey in Spokane, WA. He lived his whole life on the South Hill of Spokane and Graduated from Joel E. Ferris High School in 1967. He left his mark there as an athlete and a friend to all.
Kent graduated from Washington State University in 1977, earning his Doctorate in
Veterinary Medicine after attending Gonzaga University and receiving his B.A. in Biology from Eastern Washington University. He met and courted his future bride at EWU in 1970. Following his graduation from Vet School in the summer of 1977, he and Pamila married. They had a beautiful and wonderful 45 year courtship.
In 1977, Kent fulfilled a dream as he opened the South Grand Veterinary, where he successfully practiced veterinary medicine for 28 years. He reluctantly retired from practice in 2005 due to medical reasons. He had a never ending passion for caring for his patients and their owners with the utmost love and compassion.
Kent’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, WSU football and spending time with his family at their lake cabin on Priest Lake since 1996 as well as watching Survivor. Kent was the proud grandfather to his five grandchildren who always brought a sparkle to his eye and a beaming smile to his face.
Kent was preceded in death by his parents Dr. Kenneth and Arleen McVey. He is survived by his wife of nearly 39 years, Pamila; son K.C. (Sarah) McVey; daughter Patsy (Kevin) Bryant; and five grandchildren: Charlie, Gracie, Ben, Kaitlyn and Kendra; his brother, Kevin (Norma); and sister Molly McVey.
Kent was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be greatly cherished and missed by each and every one whose life he touched. He will always be remembered as a great man of integrity, honesty and compassion.
A memorial service honoring Kent will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at 2:30 pm at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church, 4102 S. Crestline St, Spokane, WA. A reception will follow at Manito Country Club, 5303 South Hatch Road, Spokane, WA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Spokane Humane Society in memory of Kent C. McVey, D.V.M.
