

Jaynes Anita Spradley passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. She was 93 years old and died from natural causes. Jaynes was born July 19, 1931, in New Brockton, Coffee County, Alabama, to Merle Mixson and Stricklin Snellgrove. When she was in her teens, her mother remarried, and William H. Bowers Jr. became her stepfather. After graduating from Central High School in Syracuse, New York, in 1949 and attending Florida State University, she worked as cigarette girl during summer at the Saranac Inn, New York. In 1956, she married Cmdr. Van E. Spradley and supported his Navy career, traveling worldwide before settling in Spokane, WA, in 1976. Jaynes was an avid walker, earning numerous medals with the local Volksmarch group. Jaynes was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Cmdr. Van E. Spradley and is survived by three adult children: Karen Marshall (John), Diane Nichols (Ken), and Michael Spradley (Molly), along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren and brother, Jerry Bowers (Verne) and sister, Evelyn Mizak. Funeral services (non denominational) will be held on Sunday, April 6, at Rockwood Retirement South Event Center 1:00 p.m. She will be put to rest beside her husband at Pines Cemetery.
