Jim was one of the greatest humans I have ever known. I met him when I was barely still a teenager in 1990. I was a little snot on the C.B. radio and he invited me to his house to discuss this fact. Haha! What I met behind the big voice on the radio was a warm, soft spoken bear of a guy. We became fast friends and remained close for many years that followed. He was one of the most kind people I'd ever met. He was even kind enough to take me into his home in 1999 after I lost my apartment. He and Mel were the only ones my husband and I told we were eloping and were our biggest supporters. My husband and I really were fond of him and Mel. Those days living in their home were great. I moved to Seattle for a few years and when I returned to Spokane, I was delighted to see him again. We both moved at the same time and lost touch. Thankfully, his son put me back in touch with him. This was after Mel died and he seemed to be struggling a bit, so we used hang out and watch movies (I begrudgingly watched Avatar with him, but it was time well spent). Then, he moved and vanished again. I found him on Facebook for a while, then he seemed to vanish again. I always hopes he was well. I'm heartbroken to learn if his passing, but I'm glad to have so many memories with him. He was an unconditional friend and I loved him like family. My heart goes out to his children, whom he loved so much, even when times were tough.
