Duane was born November 7, 1933, in Park Rapids, MN to Harold and Ruth Wilson. He graduated from Park Rapids Area High School and then received his teaching degree from Bemidji State University, where he majored in Music Education.
Duane met his future wife, Joan Fiemann, while she was teaching Home Economics in Park Rapids. He and Joan married in 1956 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead, MN.
Duane was a high school band director at various Minnesota schools. He began his career with the Minnesota Education Association in 1965 and relocated the family to White Bear Lake, MN.
Duane and Joan raised four kids and moved to Spokane, WA in 1979. Duane began his own consulting firm, Duane Wilson & Associates, specializing in Labor Relations.
Duane loved music and started playing in dance bands as a young teenager. He was an avid collector of antiques and loved estate and garage sales, especially negotiating the prices!
Duane loved spending time with family and friends, with the Wilson house being the gathering place for all.
Duane was preceded in death by his wife, Joan E. Wilson, in 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ruth; and siblings, Robert, Donna and Harold Deane Wilson.
Duane is survived by his two sons, Steven Wilson, Kalispell, MT, Michael Wilson, Lewiston, ID; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Jake Dault, and Monica and Rick Woodworth, all of Spokane, WA. He is survived by his five grandchildren, ReAnn and Jenna Wilson, Tori Wilson and Matthew and Megan Woodworth. Duane’s “grands” were his pride and joy. Duane is also survived by many nieces, nephews and in-laws, whom he treasured greatly.
A Memorial Service will be Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Audubon Park United Methodist Church, 3908 N. Driscoll Blvd. in Spokane.
Duane’s family would like to say a special thanks to his longtime friend and physician, Dr. Jeff Clode. The family would also like to thank the physicians and staff at Cancer Care Northwest. Thank you to all who have touched Dad’s life.
