He was born in 1928 in Englewood City, New Jersey to Ralsamond and Lucy Mattocks and moved to California with his mother when he was a young teenager. While in the army he was stationed at Army Camp Hanford, Washington. It was at an army dance event that he met the love of his life. He married Judy in Kennewick and they settled down in Pasadena, California where he built their first house. Dan supported his growing family working in construction.
The family packed up their camper trailer and spent vacations at the beach, river, desert and mountains. During a summer vacation in Washington they purchased property at North Twin Lake. The next few summers were spent at North Twin while Dan built their summer cabin. In 1972 Dan and Judy moved their family to Spokane. He demonstrated his skills again as a craftsman and built their retirement home. Dan enjoyed riding his tractor lawnmower, fishing, camping, snow skiing, NASCAR, musical theatre, being with friends and family and tinkering in the garage. He also liked a good cheeseburger!
Dan is survived by his children Dianna (Don) Cunningham, John Mattocks, Laurie (Rod) Roberts, Jeff (Karen) Mattocks and Jim Mattocks, 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Also, he is survived by his sister Alyce Whieldon, his half-brother Steven Mattocks and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Judy Mattocks. There will be a Celebration of Life for Dan and Judy later this year.
