Ardyce was born on April 25, 1925 on the family farm near Doland, South Dakota to Raymond and Alice Shult. She was the oldest of five children. She attended school in the one room school house on their farm known as the “Shult School”. She then attended high school in Doland and lived in the dorm. After graduation she moved to Minneapolis and worked for Travelers Insurance Company. She moved back to Doland and dated then married Arnold LaBrie. They farmed in the Doland area and had their first four children. Then with a pioneering spirit they moved west in 1955 to begin a new life in Spokane Washington. Their fifth child was born in Spokane. Once her children were in school, Ardyce began working at the Post Office. She worked her way up and retired in 1987 as the Injury Compensation Specialist.
She was very active in the community. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, she was active with the boy scouts, Eastern Star, she volunteered at Our Place, the Postal Credit Union and West Minster Presbyterian Church.
She loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, boating and traveling in their motor home to Alaska and the western United States. They always took along their children and grand-children instilling in them the same love for the outdoors.
Her final years were spent living at Evergreen Fountains assisted living facility where she received the most loving care from her caregivers.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, her husband (Arnie), her son (Danny) and her great grandson.
Survived by her children Susan Martin, Cherri (Michael) Carver, Monte (Janice) LaBrie, Lynne (Rob) Tollison. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
Ardyce was loved by all who were lucky enough to know her. She will always be in our hearts.
