Sonia Lee Henchel

Sonia was born in Seattle, WA. and spent her childhood years in Washington, Pennsylvania, and Idaho states. She graduated as Valedictorian at Grace Academy (Coeur D’Alene, ID.) in 1978. She then graduated from Kinman Business College and started her career as an executive secretary.

Sonia met her husband, Mark, in 1979 while they both worked at Hydramotive Products in the Spokane Industrial Park. Their romance was filled with church activities, hiking, snow skiing, and spending time with their families. Sonia and Mark were married in 1981 and their daughter, Megan, was born in 1984, while they were moving! They lived in Spokane Valley, Yakima, WA., and Coeur D’ Alene, ID before returning to Spokane Valley when Megan started school. Sonia and Mark later moved to South Spokane County.

Sonia’s name means “wisdom” and she lived a practical, service filled life close to her Lord and Savior, Jesus. Sonia felt deep compassion and showed Love through service to others. She especially loved teaching children and was a saint to her husband of 43 years. She was kind, tender-hearted, and would not speak ill of others. She always saw the best in others and thought highly of all whom she knew.

Sonia was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2015. She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Ruth and Bill Johnston; her brothers, Roger, Scott, David, and John Lewis: her husband, Mark; her daughter and son-in-law, Megan and Bryan Kioski; her grandchildren, Abraham, Owen, Nora, and Ephraim Kioski; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a whole bunch of wonderful friends who helped so much in caring for her.

A visitation for Sonia will be held Thursday, November 7, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home, 1306 N. Pines Rd., Spokane Valley, WA 99206.

A Celebration of Life will occur Friday, November 8, 2024 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, 1306 N. Pines Rd., Spokane Valley, WA 99206.

A reception will follow Friday, November 8, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 1306 N. Pines Rd., Spokane Valley, WA 99206.

Sonia will be buried at Pines Cemetery.
