Karen Gottlob, a beloved grandmother, passed away on April 21st, 2023, at the age of 81. Born on May 10, 1941, in Wichita, Kansas, Karen was the eldest daughter of Mildred Woods and Lee Roy Woods. She is survived by her three younger siblings Irene White, Judy Hicks, and Bill Woods, with three children Lisa (Gary) Frahn, Joe (Pam*) Gottlob, and Roger (Teri) Gottlob, 13 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren
As a young woman, Karen had a passion for journalism, serving as the editor of her high school newspaper, including an interview with the Governor of Kansas. After being set up on a blind date, she married her late husband, Donald J. Gottlob, on December 28th, 1958.
Karen's life was marked by adventure and service. She began her career as a military wife accompanying Donald to various postings across the United States. During this time, she worked as a FCC radio operator and Avon sales associate. Karen and her family settled in Spokane, Washington, where she became an active member of her community. Karen was deeply committed to volunteer work, serving in leadership roles within the PTA, American Heart Association, and other organizations. She was particularly passionate about running election centers and ensuring that everyone had the opportunity to exercise their right to vote.
An avid gardener, Karen was a leader and senior judge for the Inland Empire Dahlia Society, North Idaho Dahlia Society, and the American Dahlia Society. She showed flower arrangements and individual dahlias alongside her husband, daughter, and grandchildren.
Throughout her life, Karen was known for her smile, kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
