Lt. Col. John W. Carson, USAF Retired, passed away Saturday morning, February 26, 2011 at 9:42 am. John was born in Stroudsburg, PA on January 4, 1924 to Thomas and Esther Carson. After graduating from Hershey’s Boys School in 1943, he joined the US Army Air Corp. John’s service to America spanned 26 years including WWII, Korea and Vietnam. John was a POW in WWII and is the recipient of a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. John moved to Spokane in 1975, there he met his wife Wanda and the two were married on December 28, 1985. John was preceded in death by his two sons John H. Carson and Eugene T. Carson; his daughter Julian Carson and his twin brother Lt. Col. Eugene T. Carson, USAF, Ret. and granddaughter Karina. John is survived by his wife Wanda R. Carson; his children Shaun Chess and wife Nora; Debbie Chess and fiancé Phil LeFaive, Walt Wicks and wife Barbara. John is also survived by his grandchildren James, Brooklynn, Derek and wife Daniella, Tiger and Brad and niece Esther; great grandchildren Calvin, Madeline, Audrianna, Sebastian and Brian. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 11:00 am at Thornhill Valley Chapel, 1400 S. Pines Rd., Spokane Valley, WA; there will be a reception at 1:00 pm at the Quality Inn, 8923 E. Mission Ave. John’s final resting place will be at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery, Medical Lake, WA.
