She was born August 13, 1929 in Spokane, Washington to Hugo Ezra and Frieda
Marie Schulz.
Her elementary and secondary education was completed in Reardan, Washington.
She attended Reardan High School where she met her future husband, Clyde Edward
Jones. They married September 1, 1950 and settled in the Spokane area.
Janice attended business school in Spokane and worked as a bank teller in Reardan,
Spokane and Gary, Indiana. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from
Whitworth College in 1966. She devoted her entire teaching career of 25 years to
educating third grade children in Deer Park, Washington.
Her interests included following all college, minor league and professional football,
basketball and baseball sports teams, especially the Spokane Indians, WSU Cougars
and Gonzaga Bulldogs. Other interests included cooking, baking, dining at restaurants,
Pinochle, Bridge and knitting. She traveled with her family throughout the United States
in recreational vehicles. Many months of each year were spent with her husband
enjoying the Oregon coast, collecting agates and keepsakes of lighthouses. They were
partners in farming their Reardan grain fields and gardening at home.
She was an active member of the Evangelical United Brethren and Lutheran churches
where she played the piano and organ, taught children in Sunday School and
participated in Women’s Guild. Her strong faith was an inspiration to her family and
friends.
Janice was preceded in death by her younger brother, Keith.
Her beloved husband died in 2019. She is survived by their daughters,
Betsy Burns ( Bill) and Kathie Olson; grandsons, Erik Olson ( Ramona),
Jonathan Burns ( Wendy), Aaron Olson and Joseph Burns; great- grandson, Ryker;
and numerous nieces and nephews.
