West Milford, NJ. – Raymond R. Butkewicz, 94, passed away on Friday, Sept. 14, 2018. He was born in Jersey City on April 4, 1924 to Boleslaw and Helen (Seroczynska) Butkiewicz. Mr. Butkewicz was raised in Jersey City, graduated from Dickinson High School, served in the army during World War II and was stationed in France. Ray married Peggy Murphy in 1952. Ray and Peggy lived in Kearny for many years and were summer residents of Lake Mohawk until 1978, when they became permanent residents of Sparta. Before retirement, Ray worked in the Hudson County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court and the Warren County Prosecutor's Office. After Peggy passed in 1987, Ray moved to Lady Lake Florida and married Shirley Cunningham. They enjoyed an active retirement with Ray continuing to play golf and tennis, and enjoying travel and dancing to swing music with Shirley. Ray returned to New Jersey in 2017 after Shirley passed away, He was happy to follow his favorite sports teams, the Mets and the Giants and to spend more time with his children, Donna (Shaw) and her husband Stephen, Laurie (Kusma) and her husband Robert, grandchildren Elizabeth Shaw Deslauriers and her husband Glen, Catherine Shaw Terwilliger and her husband Dusty, Stephen Shaw, Robert Kusma and his wife Ashley, Colleen, Elyse and Karen Kusma and great-grandchildren Nellie and Clinton Terwilliger and Charles Deslauriers. Funeral arrangements are entrusted under Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta, NJ 07871. Services will be held privately. Interment will take place at a later date.
