

Harvey's Lake, Pa.- Gloria D. Opitz, formerly of Sparta went home to the Lord on May 29, 2015. Born on December 8, 1926 in Brooklyn NY, the youngest daughter of Gertrude and Maurice Dunn. Gloria graduated from secretarial school in Brooklyn, NY and worked until moving to Lake Mohawk in 1954. She was the secretary for 35 years at Immaculate Conception rectory in Franklin, NJ as well as Our Lady of the Lake church in Sparta. An active member at OLL, she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society, a Eucharistic Minister, and the Director of Work of Human Hands. She was a Columbiette, Knights of Columbus Council #588, and a Club member of Lake Mohawk for 54 years. She resided at Knoll Heights and lived with her family for her remaining years. She was a loving mother to her nine children, devoted to her family and her church. Predeceasing her was her son James Michael Opitz in 2008. Surviving her is Patricia (William) Dermody, Susan (Michael) Ballard, Janet (Paul) Grossnickle, Diane(Terry) Traphagan, Jeffrey (Sandra) Opitz, Steven(Lorri) Opitz, Lorraine (Taft) Truska, and Jared (Yuriko) Opitz. 17 Grandchildren, and 17 Great Grandchildren. Friends and family are invited Tuesday A 2pm rosary service precedes the viewing, from 2~4 7~9 pm at Goble Funeral Home 22 Main Street Sparta, NJ. A Wednesday Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am from Our Lady of the Lake Church, Sparta, followed by interment in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Franklin, NJ. Memorial contributions may be made in Gloria’s name to Immaculate Conception Church Franklin, NJ or Our Lady of the Lake Church, Sparta, NJ.
