Cynthia Elaine McBean (GENTLE) died on September 3rd 2022 at her home in Miramar, Florida.
She was born on August 29th 1943 at Blackheath Sugar Estate, Westmoreland, Jamaica where her father, Ivor A. Reid Sr., was the resident Overseer.
She attended Ms. Bligh’s Prep. School and Savanna-la-Mar infant and elementary school. After graduating from elementary school, she attended Saint Hugh’s High school in Kingston, Jamaica. Upon finishing high school in 1961, Cynthia enrolled and attended the Southend-On-Sea School of Nursing at the General Hospital in Rochford, England from 1961 to 1964. Following her baseline training she completed her specialization in Midwifery at Rob Royston Hospital in Glasgow Scotland from 1964 to June of 1966. After practical training and working in Glasgow, she saw an opportunity to work in the USA closer to her younger sister Ouida Cooke.
She was recruited by Georgetown hospital in 1968 but opted for employment at Lennox Hill and later at Metropolitan hospital in New York where she worked in labor and delivery.
In June of 1970 she got engaged to be married to Carl McBean – a long time suitor and admirer. They exchanged marriage vows on November 29th 1970 in Freeport Long Island NY.
They were married for 52 years.
Cynthia took employment with the Federal VA hospital system in West Haven, CT in 1970 and was employed with them in various assignments in Urology and Surgical Intensive Care.
As Carl’s Sales Executive career progressed with transfers, she would also take transfers within the VA System to Boston, then back to Connecticut, followed by a 15-year employment at the Miami V.A.
Cynthia is survived by her husband Carl; their two children Jason and Melissa; their grandchildren Jackson and Hayden; and her brothers Ivor Anthony Jr. and Alfred Carey Washington Reid along with several grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her other siblings, Joan and Ouida.
Cynthia worshipped at the Holy Sacrament Episcopal Church since 1995 where her mother Maud Reid and late sister Joan were members. She was an active member of the Episcopal Church Women’s group, she taught Sunday School, and established the church’s first book club which offered a scholarship program to graduating Seniors. In addition, she was a key contributor and organizer to the Church’s annual Health Fairs.

A memorial will be held on October 7, 2022 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 2401 Davie Rd., Plantation, FL 33317.
The funeral services will be held on October 8, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Holy Sacrament Episcopal Church located at 2801 North University Dr., Pembroke Pines, FL 33024.
