Bill was born February 29, 1936, son of the late John and Mary Weiland. He was retired from the United States Air Force, having served 26 years. Following his retirement in 1980, he moved to northern Virginia where he worked for Geodynamics for the next 18 years. In 1998, he and his wife Liz moved to St. James. Bill was a member of the Southport - Oak Island Kiwanis Club. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed traveling and spending time with their friends.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Liz Weiland; two daughters, Laura Battiata and husband Andrew, and Sarah Strohecker and husband Jason; five grandchildren, Ben, Emma, Lily, Avery, and Luke; a brother, David Weiland. He was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.
The funeral mass will be held at noon on Friday, July 8th, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport.
