Bill was born June 4, 1957, the son of LTC (ret.) William Fred Cockrell, Jr. and Reita Grose Cockrell. He was veteran of the US Navy and had worked at Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point for over 30 years. Bill was an avid motorcyclist, he enjoyed golf, pool, darts, and loved music. Bill’s favorite band was Dream Theater, and he had traveled the country attending their shows. He enjoyed sharing his favorite band with others and had planned to take his nephew Thomas to a concert later this month. Bill was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his mother Reita Cockrell of Southport, his wife Bonnie Cockrell of Asheville, two sisters, Kelley Cockrell Sellers of Boiling Spring Lakes, and Cara Dawn Clements and husband Howard Potts of Southport, three nephews, Thomas Clements of Southport, Will Clements and wife Jessica of Newport, Daniel Clements of Raleigh, and a great-nephew Sullivan Clements and special best friends Steve Kerr and Billy Horne.
The family will have a celebration of life visitation from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Friday, November 10, 2017 at Peacock – Newnam & White Funeral Home.
