Sweet Roy was as special a person as there could be. His  love of life and people  were obvious and a joy to see. He will be truly missed. 



Roy is one of our dearest friends. As many have said, he was quite a character, always laughing, joking and praising our Lord.  A couple years back, he and Robert came to see my husband, Bobby, right after one of his many back surgeries. This time the hospital  put Bobby in what looked like an old storage room or closet. You couldn't move in the room. When you opened the door, it almost hit the sink and you had to work your way around the foot of the bed to get to the other side, which only had room for one chair.  The door opens and there is Roy and Robert right behind him.  Roy looked at Bobby and said "what did you do, they have put you in the closet? Didn't you pay your last hospital bill?" Then he turned to Robert and said "there's not room for you, we'll have to leave the door open and pray in the hall".  He never missed a chance to tell you he loved you, make you laugh and spread the word of Jesus Christ.  We are so very thankful he was our friend and we will sure miss his laughter and loving words.  We know he is in the loving arms of Jesus Christ and singing with the angels.    Bobby and Gail Jackson

Roy was such a character. Always smiling, joking and happy. He had so many hidden talents. One fond memory we have is at First Baptist Church of Oak Island, My Mom (who is Deaf) came to Church with us. Roy being Roy talked to everyone he met. Well.... Out the corner of my eye I see he is making a line towards my Mom and , I was trying to get away from the person I was talking to so, I could go interpret for my Mom and Roy. Now we all know that sometimes the sweet Church Ladies are not letting you go until they know everything they want to know about how you and everyone are doing.  I really was trying to get over there.  Roy had his back to me so, I could not tell what was going on. I finally was able to make my escape and was I SURPRISED ! They did not need my help afterall. Roy could sign to my Mom and they were having a conversation. Who knew? I was blown away. He will always be remembered by our family. We know it is hard to let our loved ones go.... However, we know Roy is with the Lord and we will see him again. This is not good bye, this is thank you for being a part of our lives here on earth and we will see you again. We have that promise ...we will meet again.
Hold strong in your faith, remember the good times, the love and spunk of Mr. Roy.

I have been blessed to know Roy since 7th grade at Sunset. After school a bunch of us would walk to his parents' store for a Pepsi and snack.  Had fun all through school but was more blessed when my family and the Joyner family served and worshipped together at Long Leaf Baptist Church....so many good memories. One special memory I hold dear to my heart is a knock on our door at 4:30 one morning (when we lived in Boiling Springs, NC). It was Roy! He was driving a truck from Wilmington on his way to Asheville to deliver. He said, "How about some of your biscuits for breakfast, sis!"  So I cooked and we all sat around our table and ate grits, eggs, sausage, bacon, and biscuits! A glorious morning as we thanked the Lord for answered prayer!  To Donna, Michelle, Vance, Doris and all the family...you are loved and being prayed for.  He loved his family more than life. Roy, you are shouting all over glory! ...right where you wanted to be. Love you forever my friend!

Roy was a great encourager to me when Jesus claimed me for his own. Roy encouraged me to trust Christ in all of life and that has proven to be very good counsel. God's best to all of Roy's family and friends.

One of the greater joys of my life was to be Roy Joyner’s Pastor. I remember my wife and myself would do a Christmas Party for all ordained Deacons of Long Leaf Baptist. There was always a great attendance. Roy without being asked would bring all the humor he could bring. His presence always made the party a blast. Love you Roy.

Hard to put into  a few words what Roy meant to us all. I know he loved his Family and his friends and always greeted everyone with a smile and a hug.I know you are in Heaven with other Family members and friends.You will be missed by so many here but by God’s grace we will get to see each other again. I have known and loved this Family my whole life.Until we meet again,R.I.P. my friend.🙏😂🙏

Uncle Roy was always fun to be around. As a child, I remember him cutting up with his kids, nieces, & nephews. If we got a little out of line, he would introduce us to “Claude”, his belt (usually with a smile on his face). As I got older, I remember him fondly. He was always humorous, caring, & loved to make sure everyone knew our Lord & Savior. He always seemed to be genuinely interested in what was happening in other people’s lives. He will be missed, and my prayers are with his family. 

So sad for your loss.  Will miss his smiling face at church when you are in Charlotte.  May God give you strength for the days ahead.

Roy shared his faith and love of Jesus to friends, family and people he met over dinner, in stores as he shopped and in the hospital with doctors and nurses he met as he battled illness. Roy always thought of the well being of people that God placed in his path. He was a servant for our Lord.  Jesus will say to Roy "Well done thy faithful Servant".  Roy, you will be greatly missed, see you in Heaven. Richard and Kathleen Pearce
