So sorry to hear Mr Snyder’s passing.  I know it’s been a couple of months since then but I just found out from the C Milton Wright High School Facebook site.  I was a student from long ago  think 1994.  It was 6th grade World History.  Never had another class with him.  That little blip of time has resonated with me.  He was truly original and unforgettable.  Never had English with Mrs Snyder but I know enough to say they were like two peas in a pod.  Found memories    

I know I, and everyone else on the Hoggard lacrosse team, feels honored to have been taught, coached, and truly known by Snyder.  His passion for the sport and his passion to connect with a wild group of teenage girls was hard to overlook.  He cared for us and looked out for us.  He made us laugh and told us we were slow (in the head and on the field).  But most of all he believed in us and he befriended us which makes me feel so lucky to have known him.  Sending all my love.

Coach Snydie was simply one of the best humans I met. He taught me life long lessons through lacrosse that I still carry with me today. Sending my condolences to the family ❤️

What a beautiful service today honoring Paul.  Yes, he would’ve loved seeing everyone who came to pay their respects to the family. I worked with him at Hoggard and he was delightful.....always willing to help, a smile on his face, and a kind word or funny joke to share......some days that was what everyone needed. I can't really put into words how much Coach Snyder and Coach Erin mean to our family. It may seem crazy to some people, but some of our happiest memories were made at the Hoggard Lacrosse games and practices. Our daughter Sarah loved how tough Coach Snyder could be and she always got his sense of humor. It was a really special team, and he was the leader of that memorable group. I know he fought a long, hard battle.  I hope he is at peace. We are sending our heartfelt condolences to "The Queen" and all of his friends and family. 

Coach Snyder was one of the best parts of heading out to the lacrosse field at Hoggard! We loved him just as much as he loved all of us, and he always kept us laughing. He was truly a great coach and one of the reasons why I love lacrosse as much as I do. He always had healthy snacks on hand and was always willing to share, even 5 minutes before we took the field for a game! I’ll never forget heading off to college to play lacrosse and receiving a package in the coaches office. He sent me a single pack of nutrigrain bars, just because he knew I always forgot to eat before practice. I am so deeply saddened to hear of his passing but absolutely wanted to share the light and joy he brought to my, and all of my teammates lives the 4 years I attended Hoggard High School. The Fowler family is sending all of the friends and family of Mr. Snyder our love.

Dear Mrs. Snyder and family,
I was so saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Snyder. As a student in 10th grade World History at CMW, I fondly remember him teaching "Sidhartha".  Even though I thought the book was dreadfully boring, Mr. Snyder always found a way to make learning interesting and fun with his (endearing) corny sense of humor. I also volunteered as a ball girl for the boys varsity soccer team. Coach Snyder motivated and supported the entire team and brought out something good in everyone, from the star players, to the ball girls and team managers. He made us all feel valued and taught us some important life lessons about how to treat others.
Many prayers are being sent your way as you mourn his loss. May you all find comfort in your memories and may he rest in eternal peace.


I first learned about the Snyders in Mrs. Snyder’s freshman year English class, she was so kind and nice I was shocked to find she was married to what I thought was a gruff, rough, angry Mr. Snyder.

Little did I know that he would help build my confidence, self esteem, thicken my skin and laugh at my mistakes.

I was intimidated by the girls’ lacrosse tryouts, not only had I heard he was a tough coach from some of the boys’ soccer players. The drills for try outs we a bit unconventional and very objective – which I learned to love, because if you practiced hard enough you could make the team!

I was honored when I made the Varsity team as a freshman, Snyder pulled me aside and gave me the option to play JV and play a lot or sit the bench on varsity. I chose JV for freshman year and sophomore year I joined the varsity ranks. I was again honored when he chose me to be his student aide both Junior and senior year, 

He also gave me my beloved nickname “AL” there were two Alison’s on the team the other with a cool last name “Vezetti” he started calling me “AL” and it stuck. I can still hear him yelling my name and I love it. 

He was a coach that you wanted to play well for and you knew that you had played well when he was quiet. 
I have such fond memories during my lacrosse years at CMW and that is due to Snyder. 
He was such a wonderful person and coach. He touched many lives and I’m forever grateful. 
Now as a mom, I can only hope that my children would cross paths with a coach like Snyder.

I’m so sorry for your loss Mrs. C, Gavin, and PC. And I’m really sorry I never came down to visit. Coach had such an impact on me becoming a teacher and coach. I love my life but would go back in a heartbeat to play on his soccer team at C. Milton Wright. He instilled a passion in me that has lasted to this day. I played soccer the other night and couldn’t stop thinking about him. I’m 46 years old and I can still hear his voice in my head pushing me to work harder on the field and as a teacher. He truly had a gift to motivate. It was a pleasure to teach with him and coach under him. He convinced me to start coaching girls lacrosse and I never would have had the confidence to do so without him. Thank you for the memories coach and for believing in me. I’ll be praying for the Snyder family tomorrow and always. And I pray I see you again coach and if I do I hope “the piano” is off my back. 

Mr.  Snyder was a pleasure to work with at Hoggard High School.  Such a great teacher and coach!

I taught with Paul at Hoggard High School. Never did we speak when I wasn’t left with a smile on my face. He invited a bunch of us teachers down annually to play a round of golf with him at St. James. Although almost 30 years my senior, he was always a gracious winner on the course. I am honored to have known him, teach with him, share stories of life experiences with him, and hit the links with him. He will be truly missed. 

I worked with Paul at Hoggard High School, where he also taught my son.  Paul was a beautiful guy and someone I had tremendous respect for both in the classroom and for his work with our women’s lacrosse program.  He definitely left his mark on everyone he worked with.  I loved reading Paul’s life story in the obituary—what a special life!  Please know Rita and I will be thinking of and praying for Paul’s loved ones.  Sincerely,  Scott Braswell

I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of your husband, Coach Snyder, as I knew him.  A fellow 1998 CMW soccer teammate told me this morning. He was a  great coach & mentor; & demanded no less than your greatest effort on the soccer field.  I never had him as a teacher but I am sure he demanded the same in the classroom.  The practices, night games & his guidance are all memories that have stuck with me & helped me  to succeed both in college playing lacrosse & navigating life away from home & beyond in family & professional life.  There was always one saying that I remember during practices, when we were running of course - "Don't be last."  Funny enough that stuck with me so much that it is now tattooed under my arm.  Please accept my condolences & prayers to you & your family.

Paul's definitely in his element in this picture as a history teacher.

Paul and I were colleagues for more than thirty years.  Before his marriage to Charlene, he and four other teachers rented a farm house with barn on two acres at the edge of town.  We planted a vegetable garden and raised a black angus heifer.  Both helped to substantially reduce our grocery bill.  Paul was an excellent chef who could have opened his own restaurant.  Our Thanksgiving dinner was the talk of our guests for years to come.
As a teacher and a soccer coach, Paul instilled a love of subject matter and soccer unmatched by others.  His no nonsense style inspired dedication, self-confidence and never give up attitude, which I’m sure has resulted in success for many of his students.
As I have traveled through life, I consider myself fortunate to have met and been a friend with Paul.  Rest in peace my friend.  I do hope we will meet again.

Mr. Snyder will be sorely missed. Some of my most favorite memories at C. Milton involve the two of you. I’ll always hold the two of you in the highest esteem and I can’t thank you enough for the impact you both had on my education and love of learning. I’ve told many stories of being in your class in 9th grade and his World History class in 10th grade. You two were some of my favorite educators and I will continue to remember my time in your classes fondly. I’ll never forget the time he caught me with gum in my mouth and made me answer three questions in a row in order to keep it in my mouth or I had to get up and throw it out. He always pushed me to challenge myself, just like you. Neither one of you would sign my schedules for the following year until I signed up for honors or AP classes. It was the first time in my life that I had the encouragement to challenge myself and live up to my academic potential. I will continue to think back and smile about the time in class with the two of you. Thank you for everything.

Later Paul was my son’s soccer coach at C. Milton Wright.  A true teacher, motivator of young students and athletes.

I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to work closely with him when his love for women's lacrosse first started to bloom.  He coaxed me out of retirement from coaching men's lacrosse to assist him in the women's program.  I cherish the memories of those years building one of the most dominant and respected programs in Maryland.  Paul will be missed.

Mrs. Snyder, You  both were two of my favorite teachers, as well as two of my favorite people in life. My condolences to you for the loss of your husband. Dear Snyder Family:
So sorry for your loss. Coach Snyder was a huge influence on me and my life. He taught values, on and off the field, that have translated to living life to its fullest. As a coach, he meant as much to me as a parent. He instilled hard work and taught me what complacency was before I even knew what it was. Hard work pays off. He knew that and he always saw the potential in people and had his way to motivate you both as a student and as an athlete. Sometimes his was might have been a little tough, but he ‘raised’ tough players. 
I’ll treasure the memories that he created for us as players and allowed us to form some lifetime friendships. He might not ever have known how instrumental he was in the formation of a bunch of teenager’s lives, or maybe he did-but, he was one of the best.


He was a great guy and a great teacher! He always had your attention with his wit and many times in our class discussions we got to sit on top of the desks. It's a weird memory but one of my favorites. He made you feel heard.

Mr. Snyder was our lacrosse coach.  He loved fast players and always put them on defense and at center.  We would go out to eat after every season and we would get him a tie to support the Children’s hospital.  Thankful to know you as a coach Mr. Snyder.

Mr. Snyder was my World History teacher at C. Milton Wright High School, many moons ago. I’m horrible with history and he would always call on me and of course, I would never know the answer! ;) He was caring, smart, funny and a great soccer coach!      I was saddened to learn of Mr. Snyder’s passing. While I did not have him as a teacher, I know he demanded the same excellence in the classroom that he did on the soccer field. At times his fitness and skill requirements seemed insurmountable to make the cut (“150 juggles of the ball below the waist or good-bye”).  However, we were being challenged and learned what  we were truly capable of achieving. He provided me the framework to play at the next level and confidence to challenge myself. To this day I still drive by those hills along Route 543 at CMW and cringe at the thought of those preseason suicide runs. Keeping you and the family in my thoughts and prayers.

My sincerest sympathies. Mr. Snyder was my teacher at C. Milton Wright and he truly changed the way in which I had viewed the world up until the point when I was fortunate enough to be placed in his class. He taught with a sense of humor, deep compassion and kindness. 

So sorry for your loss.  Mr. Snyder was a great teacher.  I obtained a degree in History in college in part due to his enthusiasm.  

i met Paul when we played 'flag football' in Bel Air, back in the late 60's, then at a PTA meeting at C. Milton Hilton I sat down in his classroom, with other parents concerned about their children's grades.  "What are you doing in here? he asked me.  'Well, Sam got a D and so I'm here.'  'Todd, no problem with your son, he's a great guy, he's just satisfied with D...If he wants a B surely he can get one, he just has to want it'.   I'll never forget Paul's words, they settled me down, and when I relayed them to Sam, darn if he didn't get a B next marking period...Paul was that kind of a teacher...teaching students and parents alike.

I'm so sorry to read of Mr. Snyder's passing. He was my PhysEd teacher, back in the early 80s. He uber encouraged me but always took my physical limitations into consideration. He will be missed, very much.

Charlene, so sorry for your loss.  Paul was one of the "good" ones.  He was always willing to do the extra things to make the school better.  It sounds like it carried over to his church activities.  He never took the easy way out.  It was a real pleasure working with both of you.  

I had the great pleasure of being apart of Paul’s care. A very sweet and gentle soul. I am truly going to miss our sports talks. Charlene was always soo sweet to me and I appreciate her for entrusting me with her precious husband. To the family you are all in my prayers for the days ahead. God bless you all.
