Al was born October 25, 1933, son of the late Leon Dudley Burlingame and Grace Tretolo Burlingame. He was a proud veteran of the US Army. Al was originally from New York and worked as a math teacher for over 25 years on Long Island. After retirement, in the late 1980's, Al moved to Brunswick County with his late wife Alice. He was an original member of Lockwood Folly Country Club and was a club champion and travel league golf member. Al became a volunteer for the First Tee program of Brunswick County and would avidly teach anyone who wanted to learn the game. He was the proud owner of Al's golf shop and built and donated many clubs for local charity tournaments and children. He loved to tell stories about his early days as a caddy in New York and all the celebrities he met. In his later years, when he could not golf, he enjoyed critiquing all the golfers on the tee from his back porch. Much to our amusement, but not always the golfers. Al was a member of New Life Christian Fellowship where he was on the worship team singing and playing the trumpet. He will be sorely missed by many, a good man he was.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Burlingame; a brother, Daniel Burlingame; and a sister, Katherine Newton.
