He was born in New Britain on May 4, 1933 the son of the late Howard and Minnie (Johnson) Surprenant. He was employed for many years by Royal Typewriter Co. as a tool & dye maker and had retired from Sears in West Hartford. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War. Ray was an avid Red Sox fan. He loved spending time with his family on Grampa?s patio which was lovingly built by his grandsons.
He is survived by his loving daughters Sherrie Monteiro and husband Steven of Bristol, and Jackie Cyr of Plantsville who lovingly cared for him during his illness, his adoring grandchildren, Michael Cyr and wife Brooke, Gary Cyr and fiancé Mandi Palumbo, Jason Cyr, Stephanie Cyr, Matthew Godfrey, Ali Monteiro, Tejal Monteiro and Sydney Surprenant, He also leaves special family members Lorie Berube, Dean Godfrey, Amber Savaria, two nephews, two nieces and many friends. He was predeceased by a sister and three brothers.
The Funeral will be held on Saturday at 8:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. to St. Aloysius Church at 9 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday from 5-8 p.m.
A special Thank-you to Dr. Brian Byrne and his staff at the Cancer Center of Central CT at Bradley Campus and to the wonderful nursing staff at Bradley for their devotion and care to Ray and his family.
