Kathleen Jean (Cayer) Thornton, 73, of North Port, FL., passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, after a courageous 3 year battle with pancreatic cancer. Kathy was born on September 26, 1948, in New Britain, a daughter of the late Donald and Norma (Poultri) Cayer.
She was the beloved wife of Douglas W. Thornton, Sr. for 53 years. Kathy was a Bakery Manager and Supervisor for the Big Y supermarkets for many years.
Kathleen grew up in Southington CT and attended local schools. She met the love of her life, Douglas, as a teenager who lived across the street. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, dedicated to enjoyment and fulfillment of her family. Her most treasured moments were times spent with family especially during holidays when everyone got together to celebrate. She enjoyed cooking, as well as visits to the beach. She genuinely cared about the wellbeing of the neighborhood kids, as they often gathered at the home.
She will be dearly missed by her husband Douglas Sr., her son Douglas Jr. of Westfield, MA., daughter Deanna Landau and her husband Steve of Sandy Hook, CT., granddaughter Sienna Guaragno, and step granddaughter Olivia Landau, brother Jon Cayer and his wife Beth, of Stanley, Virginia, several nieces and nephews and many close friends.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brother Donald Cayer and sisters Barbara Padelli and Janice Thornton.
