Eleanor Jean Nichols, 94, of Southington, passed away on Wednesday, February 1st, 2023. Jean was married to the late Malcolm G. Nichols, Jr., for 62 years. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt.
She was born in Swampscott, MA, to the late Kenneth and Doris Place. Jean was a graduate of Swampscott High School and Lasell Jr. College with a degree in Drama.
Jean worked in the MIT Computer lab in Cambridge and Lexington, MA for 5 years before marrying Malcolm and moving to Southington. Jean retired as the Southington correspondent of the New Britain Herald.
Jean was an active member and a past president of the Bradley Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and member of the Southington Community Theater. Jean loved to travel with her husband and many friends and spent winters in Charleston, SC. Jean enjoyed many years boating on the “Jeannie Babe”, fishing and lobstering in Mystic. Jean’s other favorite activities included reading, gardening, golfing, and playing Bridge.
Jean loved and nurtured her family every day. She was the matriarch, heart and soul of the family. She is survived by her two sons, William (Barbara) and Andrew, her three granddaughters, Robyn, Melissa (Eric) and Samantha (Ryan), 5 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Ryder, Josie, Brazos, and Colt, three nieces, Linda, Virginia, and Judith and their families.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 11th, 2023 at 1:00 pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 145 Main Street, Southington, CT, with a reception to follow in the parish hall.
