WOLCOTT- Claire (Smith) Charette, 87, of Wolcott passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday August 31, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital VITAS unit. She was the devoted wife of Alban A.“Chic” Charette Sr. for 66 years.
Claire was born on December 5,1926 in New York, daughter of the late George N. Smith and the late Genevieve (Minor) (Smith) Corcoran. She was a retired employee of the Timex Corp. where she worked for over 25 years. She was also employed by several area manufacturers during WWII as an inspector of military timers and fuses. A Wolcott resident since 1955, she was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Pius X Church.
Claire was an avid reader and bird watcher. She was very patriotic and a generous donator to numerous charities. She loved to vacation at the Cape where she also spent her honeymoon. She was also a big fan of the Derek Jeter and the NY Yankees. She also enjoyed NASCAR and her favorite driver #48 Jimmy Johnson. Most of all she cherished spending time with her family.
Besides her husband, Claire is survived by a daughter Leanne and her husband Richard Fallon of Bethany, two sons Robert and his wife Barbara Charette of Westbrook formerly of Wolcott, Arthur “Ty” and his wife Lori Charette of Wolcott, nine grandchildren , thirteen great grandchildren, her beloved sister Irene “Sissy” Caligan and her husband Raymond of Waterbury as well as many nieces and nephews. Claire was predeceased by her brother George N. Smith Jr. and recently by her son Alban “Pepper”Charette.
Funeral will be Wednesday 9:15 AM from DellaVecchia Funeral Home 690 Woodtick Rd in Wolcott, to St. Pius X Church for a Mass at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home.
