William Carl Herrmann passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the Southampton Estates. He was 89 years of age. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late William C and Elsie Zimmerman Herrmann. He lived at the estates for the last 8 years and had previously been resident of the Mayfair neighborhood in Philadelphia.
Mr. Herrmann was a retired brewer. He had been a longtime employee of the Christian Schmidt Brewing Company in Philadelphia. After his retirement, he enjoyed several years of traveling with his wife.
Bill was an Army veteran of WW II, serving in the Pacific Theater. In his youth he played soccer for the Lighthouse Boys Club and played professionally with the Philadelphian Americans. Bill was also a soccer and lacrosse official.
Bill was an excellent singer who performed with both Barber Shop Quartets and Choruses. He was a member of the Checkerboard Squares and the Philadelphia/Sounds of Liberty Chorus. Bill was very proud to be recognized as a 50+ year member of the Barbershop Harmony Society (SPEBSQSA), and had been awarded the honor of “Barbershopper of the Millennium.”
For many years, Bill was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Philadelphia. He was an avid member of the Good Shepherd Church Choir, as well as the Choirs of Redemption and Gloria Dei Lutheran Churches. Also a Mason, Bill was a member of the Mozart Lodge F & AM.
William was the beloved husband of Elaine A. Silbert Herrmann for 54 years before her death on 9/29/11. He was the devoted father of Bruce W. Herrmann (Virginia) of Philadelphia. He is survived by his brother Kenneth Herrmann of Philadelphia.
Relatives and friends are invited to a service of remembrance on Sunday April 17, 2016 at 10:30am at the Huntingdon Valley United Methodist Church located at 3470 Huntingdon Pike, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Samaritan Fund at the Southampton Estates.
