Charles T. Townsend , 96, went home to his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Southampton Estates. He was the beloved husband of Doris V. Townsend who passed away in 2004. He was a long time resident of Feasterville, PA
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Harry Stackhouse Townsend and Marguerite Watts Townsend. His sister Mary Terry predeceased him in 2018, and brother in law, Franklin Terry in 2021.
Charles graduated from Frankford High School in 1942. He went on to The University of Pennsylvania, graduating in June of 1950 with a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering. He then worked at PECO after serving in the war.
Charles served in World War II as an Army squad leader, 745, Sergeant of Company I 415th Infantry Regiment 415 Infantry Company. He was awarded both the Purple Heart and Bronze Medal Star after serving in the war for his service.
Charles and Doris loved to travel and spent many years traveling around the United States and Europe, after he retired. They played golf together and skied in the Poconos.
Charles found many friends at his home church of St. Stephens and served as treasurer for many years. Together, Charles and Doris got together with the “lunch bunch” at St Stephens where they would go out for lunch at different restaurants.
Charles was a great story teller and could go on for hours telling stories about his travels, the war, and anything you asked him about, even if you had heard it before. He was an avid reader and would sometimes read two or three books at a time.
Charles is survived by his niece Nancy Smith (Dave), and nephews, Richard Terry (Cindy), and Weston Terry (Lisa) and 11 great nieces and nephews.
A service for Charles will be held at St Stephens Lutheran Church, Feasterville, on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 7pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Charles’ name may be made to St Stephens Church.
