James “Jim/Jimmy” Michael Weiss, a man of exceptional character and unwavering integrity, passed away peacefully on the morning of June 24, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born on July 20, 1946, to Harold and Elizabeth Weiss and grew up alongside his brother Tom, sister Laurie, and his dear sister Lindy, who preceded him in death.
Jim was a pillar of strength and kindness to all who knew him. His life was marked by profound dedication to his family, strong principles, and a deep commitment to service in his community. Jim was a man of action, always willing to lend a helping hand and support those in need.
In his early years, Jim was blessed with a loving marriage to Kathleen, who sadly passed away before him. Later in life, he found companionship and joy in his marriage to Mary, a union that brought him immeasurable happiness. Together, they formed a bond of love and shared values that inspired everyone around them.
Jim will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Mary, who remained by his side until the end. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in his children: Liz (Craig), Jane (Matt), Ann, and Bill (Allison), whom he cherished dearly. Jim was also a loving stepfather to Rob (Stefanie) and Patrick, whom he embraced with open arms.
Among his greatest joys were his grandchildren: Sofia, Isabel, Mateo, Clay, Madeleine, Riley, Owen, Avery, RJ, Payton, and Paige. Jim took immense pride in their accomplishments and delighted in their company. His love for his family knew no bounds, and he leaves behind memories that will be cherished forever.
Jim attended St. Catherine's High School in Racine, Wisconsin, where he laid the foundations of his education and character. He deeply loved Marquette University, where he earned his undergraduate degree and later served on the board of trustees, contributing to the institution's growth and development. After college, Jim proudly served in the US Army in Korea. He often reflected on the importance of his service to his country. Jim later pursued further studies at the Wharton Business School, where he honed his skills and embarked on a distinguished career in investment management. Jim’s professional accomplishments were a testament to his intellect, dedication, and strategic acumen.
A man of deep faith, Jim's character was rooted in his Christian values and beliefs, guiding him throughout his life and relationships.
Jim split his time between Vero Beach, FL, and Cape Cod, where he enjoyed the beauty of nature and cherished moments with family and friends. He was also a proud board member of the HEAR Foundation in Chicago, actively supporting educational opportunities for underprivileged youth.
James Michael Weiss will be remembered not only for his professional achievements and community service but for the kindness, compassion, and strength of character that defined his life. His legacy of selflessness and generosity will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jim's life will be celebrated on Friday, June 28, 2024. Visitation will be at Doane, Beal & Ames in South Dennis, MA, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. The funeral mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Yarmouth, MA.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Head, Heart, and Hands of the Indian River Club, 800 Carolina Avenue, S.W. in Vero Beach, FL 32962. Jim was a founding member of the charity which is a cause held close to his heart.
The family would also like to thank the Broad Reach Hospice and all of the special caregivers in Yarmouth Port and Vero Beach.
