Gail was a compassionate, kind and generous person. She had a heart of gold and cared deeply about every person she met. Gail loved her husband Earl and extended family with all of her heart, and she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gail filled the world with kindness, peace and love. She was passionate about helping people and was involved with the VNA and the Duffy Center in Hyannis. Gail volunteered her time throughout her life and enjoyed the Cape Cod Symphony and the Melody Tent in Hyannis. She also enjoyed traveling and Cruising with her husband Earl, the Ladies Guild, book club, card games, gardening, eating out, spending time with friends and she adored her late beloved Yorkshire Terrier “Spike”. Gail was an active member of Our Lady of the Cape, Brewster, MA.
Gail was born and raised in Malden Mass to the late Carl Gabriel Swanson and Catherine (Powell) Swanson. She attended Malden High School and the Malden School of Nursing and furthered her education with her numerous degrees; B.S at Central Connecticut College, MEd. University of Hartford, MSN Anna Maria College and Ed.D University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
Gail was the President of Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis until retirement in 2003. Previously, she held the position of Vice Chansellor/CEO at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Gail was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Catherine (Powel) Swanson, brothers Richard Swanson and Raymond Powell, nephew Steven Powell, husband William Frieswick, stepchildren Barbara “Babs” Dervishian and William O Frieswick.
Gail is survived by husband, Earl Eaton of Dennis, daughter Karen Eisenbiegler and husband Carl Eisenbiegler of Yarmouth Port, granddaughter Abigail McInnis and great grandchildren Maximilian and Alexander Eisenbiegler; stepdaughter Kristen Eaton of Dennis, and step grandchildren Madison and Jorden Vlcej; stepchildren Nancy (Frieswick) Phipps and husband Wayne, Robert Frieswick and Daniel Frieswick; loving cousin, Barbara Cole, Niece Deborah (Powell) Martin and husband Fred and Katherine (Powell) Bordeau and husband John and countless friends.
Visitation to be held at Doane Beal & Ames in South Dennis on November 14, 2024, from 4-7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Cape in Brewster, MA on November 15, 2024, at 11 AM. Reception immediately following the service at the Our Lady of the Cape Parish Center. A private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Cape Cod Symphony or the Duffy Center.
